Bioidentical Hormone Therapy & Anti-Aging

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses hormones that are identical in molecular structure and function to replenish hormones that have become deficient. Usually, bioidentical hormones are synthesized from soy or yam products. Balancing hormones with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy may be the key to helping patients lose weight and prevent many age related symptoms. While hormone decline can occur at any age, most people experience hormone decline during the forties, fifties, and beyond. Women usually experience hormone decline during perimenopause and menopause, while men experience hormone imbalances during andropause.

Perimenopause is the time that occurs three to seven years before menopause, and it occurs when the ovaries can no longer produce adequate amounts of estrogen and progesterone. During this time, imbalances in these two hormones can create weight gain, which can be difficult to reverse. Women may begin to feel less like their selves, and their periods may become very irregular. They may also experience symptoms that include fatigue, migraines, acne, increased PMS symptoms, bloating, irregular periods, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, anovulation, and infertility.

After twelve months without a menstrual period, women may enter into menopause, which occurs when the ovaries can longer produce enough hormones needed to fuel reproduction. Estrogen and progesterone are the primary female sex hormones, and they regulate a high number of activities in the female body, such as sleeping, maintaining a youthful appearance, a healthy memory, and balanced emotions. A lack of these two hormones can promote wrinkling skin, sagging breasts, dull hair and nails, thinning bones, anxiety, insomnia, depression, fatigue, vaginal dryness, low libido, a poor memory, and hair loss. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can help women to overcome these symptoms and improve their sense of well being.

Men also experience phases of hormone decline, and while male hormone decline is more gradual than female hormone decline, it can still bring about uncomfortable symptoms that interfere with daily life. Beginning in a man’s thirties, the primary male hormone, testosterone can begin to reduce at a rate of around one percent each year, and by the time he reaches his forties or fifties, the symptoms of hormone decline become more noticeable. During male andropause, most men experience low libido, muscle atrophy, hair loss, erectile dysfunction, reduced workout performances, poor memory, decreased stamina and endurance, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can help both men and women to correct these internal disharmonies and regain optimal levels of balance. Hormone decline can adversely affect a person’s ability to function in daily life, and replenishing hormones can add vitality, quality, and youthfulness to a person’s life.
